I really looked forward to this book. I was expecting a review copy but when I didn’t receive one, I bought the book because I so much enjoyed Pete’s previous book and use the exercises in it frequently and with great success. Above all I was less impressed with his second book.
Perhaps the main reason is that all but two short workouts are for the gym, using gym equipment. I work out at home. Moreover, he fails to tell the reader if a warm-up and cool-down is required and, if so, what length. And, are rests needed between sets? He doesn’t say. So, we’re left to plan our own workouts around the basic information he provides. That’s OK. It’s not earth shattering. But, it’s important nonetheless.
And, it appears he’s hooked up with a nutrition company and is pushing their products in his books. This is something I dislike. I’ve read books that recommend a product and one or two brands the author likes and/or uses. But the authors don’t have a vested interest in the sales of the products. It appears the author of this book does. He says he’s somehow associated with the company.
I liked the simple suggestions for three meals but the nutrition information is basic and brief. Of course, the book is about exercise and frankly, I don’t care if nutrition is in it or not.
The photos in the book are in colour and on good stock. It’s a nicely done book and not cheaply made. But why or why is the young woman on the cover holding a dinky 2 lb (I’m guessing)dinky pink weight? Have mercy! Women lift heavy today and they have muscle. They’re ripped. I rather resent an author showing a woman holding what hardly qualifies as a weight.
So, the bottom line is that I put the two workouts that required no equipment (one calls for weights and a machine) into my iPhone timer and have no use for the rest of the book. Now those of you who go to the gym (and I know many of you do) will likely have a totally different view of the book.
If you like pink puffy stuff, you may like this. But why make a high intensity workout book all pink and frilly?

I am a huge fan of Pete Cerqua and liked this book a lot; the nutritional part and declutter is an added value. And it works!!
