Super green spaghetti – cavolo nero blitzed up with garlic and Parmesan, dotted with spoonfuls of ricotta. A one-pan fabulous fish – white basmati rice, topped with dollops of green olive tapenade, fresh fragrant basil leaves, cherry tomatoes and delicious flaky haddock. And for dessert, golden apple crumble cookies whipped up in an instant with dried apple, self-raising flour, butter, sugar and one egg . . . Superb.
It’s all about making the journey to good food, super-simple. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great cookbook – clear – Concise and dead easy to follow with good photographs. (Recipe list in review)

As a mad keen home cook I have loads of cook books from all the well and not so well known chefs. I have quite a few of Jamie’s and was eager to get my hands on this one!
It’s a typical Jamie Oliver Cookbook – nicely put together – very easy to understand – dead easy to follow the well written recipes and he provides us with a nice colour photograph of how the finished dish should look. Not that it always does in my case!
Each left hand page shows you the 5 ingredients down the left side and has the nutritional info along the bottom. The right hand page is a full colour photograph of the finished dish. Really plain and easy to follow.
I have already made the Asian Fried eggs which were delicious and I’m making the Nutty Kale Salad for my dinner in work tonight.
If you want to see what’s inside before you buy – here’s a list of the dishes/recipes in order as they are presented in the book. . . .
There’s nutritional notes at the back of this book in regards to how to balance your plate with Veg and Fruit – carbs – Proteins – Dairy – fats and Oils.
I really like this one from Jamie. It’s clear, concise and very easy to follow. As somebody who grows their own veg I found there’s loads of good veggie options in here too. Loving the egg dishes in here as well. I think I’ll be buying a few for Christmas for foodie friends. Recommended.

So easy to follow. Perfect for midweek meals. So quick and easy. A picture with every recipe which I really love in any cook book. Nothing too fancy the store cupboard ingredients are really that mostly just oil and red wine vinegar. As a family of 4 with 2 young children 6 and 8 we eat from this book most days. By far the best Jamie Oliver book.

⭐⭐⭐ Quick, easy and slightly lacking substance

I’m torn by this book.
I really like Jamie Oliver and a lot of his books and series and his social media content in general is great and a lot of the recipes in this book are good.
The premise of this book is good but I feel it is also what let’s it down the whole 5 ingredient thing holds it back. Some of the recipes just seem like the are missing something and others seem like a bit of filler for the book.
Overall some good recipes and some not so great.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Easy recopies, just a lot of them you wouldn’t make
17 April 2019
Format: eBook Verified Purchase
The book is well put together with lots of great pictures that make it appealing and easy to follow. My 5 year old has even been able to do a lot of the work to make granola with just a little help, but there are many recopies in here that may be simple but aren’t what my family will eat, so the few that are useful will get learned and used a lot and the rest will remain never made in a book that’ll stay in the cupboard.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Brilliant

This book has taught me how to cook. With only five ingredients you can’t go too far wrong and it allows you to expand or swap out with minimal disruption to what you are making. A lot of recipes always list a truck load of ingredients and I always thought to myself: ‘whats this spice for? What does this herb add that the other one doesn’t?’. This book just strips it down to the basics and you can build from there.
Each recipe has pictures of every ingredient, the steps it takes to cook said ingredients and a photo of the end result which is all you need. As with all Jamie books I feel at times the language can be too flippant and generic when something needs to be cooked specifically. As someone that wants to get it right I feel this can be a push into the unknown with no help but most times it works out.
This is definitely a book for those learning to cook or wanting to experiment with minimalist meals – would recommend to anyone.

Really pleased with this book of Jamie’s, also a nice change for recipes that don’t have a dozen or more ingredients, which you buy as they are so obscure and never use again! Watching the programme too where you can see how simple these recipes are.

If you buy one cookbook this year, make it this one. Such fantastic variety of recipes broken into sections like pasta, fish, chicken etc No “weird” ingredients, so easy to prepare and yet so tasty. We have a very busy week with school, clubs and work but since having got this book we have had such tasty meals without any stress whatsoever to cook. It has become a family favourite to refer to. Get it! You will not regret it at all.
